If you are into Canadian history, this is one rare pistol. This is one of just over 100 remaining Colt Navy pistols sold to Upper Canada. Upon inspection it appears to function without issue. The frame, butt strap and trigger guard are serial # 29093 and the barrel, wedge and cylinder are serial #34775.

Issued to Canadian Upper Canada (Ontario) Volunteer Militia. Canada purchased 800 model 1851 navies. Approximately 600 were sent to Upper Canada and 200 to Lower Canada (Quebec). These guns were all purchased from Colt's London Factory and are marked with Colts London barrel address. They were all marked on the butt, usually on the left side with U-C for Upper Canada, along with a letter identifying the company and an issue number. This one is marked with an E for York Troop. The pistol number appears to be either 6 or 8. Approx 50 pistols were issued to E troop.

There were approximately 800-811 of these Colts purchased by Canada for issue to the mounted troops. The article by Paul Ledererin, Vol 27 No1(Feb 1989) accounted for 131 surviving examples of which these two were listed. The book "51 Colt Navies" by Swayze covers the Canadian Colts, pages 181-185. In addition he penned an article in the Canadian Journal of Arms collecting Vol 4 No 1 (1966).
