A 1942 Birmingham dispersed production Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III bolt-action service rifle chambered in .303 British. There is a crack on the forestock at the action (photo), the lower handguard is cracked (photo) and there is no cap on the upper handguard. Good bore, matching serial numbers on the receiver, barrel, bolt and rear sight leaf.

Following the bombing of the Birmingham Small Arms Small Heath plant in 1940, production of rifles was dispersed to other BSA facilities as well as to the high-end makers of the Birmingham gun trade, such as Parker Hale, Greener, etc. In 1940 BSA was the only manufacturer of rifles in the UK, as Lee-Enfield No. 4 production had not yet started, so maintaining production was key to the success of the British military.

This is a Non-Restricted Firearm.
